Another casino for Cape Town?

Cape Town, South Africa’s second-largest city by population, could be in line for a another casino.

Western Cape Economic Development MEC Alan Winde is understood to be hoping that a process for bidding for a second casino licence for the city will be under way early next year, EWN reports.

Winde said the government had consulted the province’s other licence holders – the Western Cape has five casinos in total.

“No casino licence lapses. Those that have got their licences keep them,” he said. “The decision we need to take is, do we leave the geographic space and allow no casino to move or would we allow one to move? And if we allowed it, would it be beneficial for us from a taxation point of view if it moved to the city? I believe the answer is yes.”
