Sportingbet founder Mark Blanford’s independent casino operator Double Diamond Gaming group has completed the purchase of Gala Coral’s remaining four UK casinos, based in Aberdeen, Bristol, Cardiff and Teeside, as well as a ‘cold casino’ license, for an undisclosed sum.The four casinos were excluded from a sale of 19 casinos to the Rank Group in May 2013, following a Competition Commission ruling.
Gala chief executive Carl Leaver said: “This transaction concludes the exit of our casino interests in the UK and is a continuation of our strategy to focus on growing our core operations.”
Double Diamond managing director Duncan Savage added: “We are delighted to have worked with Gala Coral to conclude this transaction. The acquisition is a continuation of our strategy to build a high-quality casino group in the UK.
“It builds on the success of our acquisition and relaunch of the Rainbow Casino in 2010 and we look forward to re-launching the casinos under the Rainbow brand over the Christmas period.”
