Opta takes control of Perform’s Global Sports Media feed

The Perform Group digital sports media company has announced that its Global Sports Media data feeds have been integrated into the service provided by its Opta sports data subsidiary.

Opta, which has offices in London, Leeds and mainland Europe, collects, packages, analyses and distributes sports data in digital format to the betting, media and professional sports sectors. Perform operates real-time sports data provider RunningBall and said in December that its Watch&Bet live streaming service for bookmakers was expected to deliver like-for-like revenue growth of about 10% in 2014.

Perform, which acquired Opta last July, said that Global Sports Media’s services would be marketed as ‘Core Data feeds’ offering basic match data. ‘Classic Data feeds’ of more detailed statistical data and aggregated statistics will also be provided as well as ‘Performance Data feeds’ containing detailed live data that supports Opta’s premium widgets such as Heatmaps and Chalkboards.

“This integration ensures we take the best of GSM and combine it with Opta’s powerful brand and innovative data approach to provide customers with the total sports data solution that is suited to their individual requirements,” Ian Campbell, Perform’s commercial director of content distribution (media), said.

Aidan Cooney, Opta’s managing director, added: “This is an exciting evolution in Opta’s data offering. GSM provides a breadth of data that is unrivalled in the market, which combined with Opta’s detailed analysis, ensures we now provide the most comprehensive sports data solution on the market.”
