Sky Betting and Gaming, the online gaming subsidiary of UK pay-television broadcaster BSkyB, has cited an increase in users as the main reason behind year-on-year revenue growth during the six months to December 31, 2013.
The broadcaster said that its subsidiary generated £84 million (€102 million/$138.2 million) in the period, an increase of 27% on the £66 million recorded in the corresponding period last year.
Growth in first-half revenue was driven by an increase in customers, with the number of unique users rising by 15% on last year.
BSkyB posted overall revenue of £3.8 billion, an increase of 7.6% on the £3.5 billion recorded in the previous year.
“Our financial performance was strong in the first half and we remain on track for the full year,” BSkyB chief executive Jeremy Darroch said.
