Dutch regulator issues fines to Mansion and ONISAC

Dutch gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit has issued Mansion Online Casino and ONISAC with a joint fine of €150,000 ($204,497) for operating an unlicensed gaming website that targeted gamblers in the Netherlands.

The regulatory body monitored the Casino.com website from June 2012 to August 2013 and noted that a number of features on the site were geared towards Dutch users. These included as a Dutch language option illustrated with a Dutch flag.

Offering online gaming in the county without a licence is prohibited, while new laws to regulate internet gambling are expected to come into force in 2015.

The fine was first levied in November 2013, but the companies complained to a court in The Hague and were granted a contemporary injunction.

However, the injunction was lifted on February 4 and the joint fine has now been issued. Mansion and ONISAC now have the right to appeal.
