Northstar Illinois CEO steps down to lead new GTECH division

Northstar Illinois, the private manager of the Illinois Lottery and majority-owned subsidiary of GTECH, has appointed Tim Simonson as its new CEO, replacing Marco Tasso who has moved on to lead a new lottery management services division at GTECH. Simonson has served as a regional vice president for GTECH Americas, guiding the development of GTECH’s strategy in various regions.

In his new role as CEO of Northstar Illinois, he will assume responsibility for continuing the business relationship with the Illinois Lottery and increasing sales and profits for the state of Illinois.

Northstar chairman and GTECH Americas president and CEO Jaymin Patel said: “Tim has been with GTECH for more than 10 years and is credited with helping to drive the company’s business development and growth opportunities.

“He is a proven leader who will work in partnership with the Illinois Lottery to drive their success and build on the progress made thus far.”

Former Northstar CEO Marco Tasso will lead a new division at GTECH, Lottery Management Services, with responsibility for overseeing all lottery private management service contracts in North America.  

Simonson will report to Tasso who will continue to help guide Northstar activities as a member of the Northstar board of directors.

“I want to thank Marco for his dedication to the success of Northstar,” continued Patel. “Under his outstanding tenure, he delivered a number of advances that have positioned the Illinois Lottery as one of most innovative lotteries in the United States.”
