Austrian online sportsbook operator Interwetten has cited the performance of its mobile sports betting operation as the main reason behind a year-on-year increase in revenue during the three months to March 31, 2014.
The company reported revenue of €11.1 million ($15.4 million) for the first quarter of 2014, an increase of 7% on the corresponding period last year.
The operator put this performance down to an increase in marketing activities, which were upped by 28% in the first quarter of the year.
Interwetten said its results were also boosted by an impressive performance by its mobile operation, which is now responsible for 40% of overall sports betting turnover in Q1 of 2014.
In order to sustain and further this growth, Interwetten is to continue with its marketing activities in the lead-up to the 2014 Fifa World Cup national tournament, which kicks off Brazil in less than nine weeks.
Werner Becher, chief executive officer of Interwetten, said: “We have set ourselves very ambitious growth and profitability targets for 2014 and want to take the World Cup a lot of momentum in the fall and in the coming year.”
