Sportech making progress with ‘key’ US initiatives

Pools and sports betting operator Sportech is to target more growth in the US after making advances in its “key strategic initiatives” in the market during the period from January 1 until May 13, 2014.

The company said overall trading remains “in line” with expectations despite severe winter weather in the north east of the US having impacted its venues business.

Despite this weather, Sportech said that its venues business made “further progress” during the period following the successful launch of a new flagship venue in Bradley and the approval for the expansion of its activities in San Diego.

The company has also been boosted by the launch of its MyWinners.com online and mobile wagering betting service in Connecticut.

Sportech said that the MyWinners.com service, Connecticut’s only legal online betting platform, will attract more customers and betting volumes following the expected issuance of formal cease and desist letters by the Connecticut Attorney General to unlicensed operators currently active in the US state.

Elsewhere, the firm’s racing and digital technology betting business remains “in line” with expectations, with trading boosted by a robust performance by its Dominican Republic customer.

During the period, Sportech also completed the operational delivery of prior year system sales to Danske Spil and Penn National Gaming.

In addition, Sportech said its football pools operation continued to progress with its “modernisation” plan and remains in line to meet expectations for the full year.

Sportech said telephone and digital marketing activity on its Footballpools.co.uk website helped to bring in 7,000 new players for its classic pools service during the period, up from 3,500 in the same period last year.
