Delaware suffers first online poker revenue fall of 2014

The Delaware Lottery has reported that online poker revenue has fallen for the first time this year after having recorded a drop in figures during May.

Combined online poker revenue in the US state during May totalled just $57,470 (€42,063), a decrease of 22.4% on the revenue generated during April.

Daily online poker revenues also tumbled from around $2,469 in the previous month to approximately $1,854 in May, representing a drop of 24.9%.

Of the three licensed racinos in the state, Delaware Park is still the most popular destination with 62% of the online poker market share.

However, that is 8% lower than in April, with Dover Downs (32%) and Harrington (6%) having gained ground in May.

Despite the drop in online poker revenue, Delaware did register a record amount of wagers placed on internet table games.

The Delaware Lottery reported that players wagered around $9 million on table games in May, a record amount for the state.

However, revenue from table games declined 47% from the £137,203 generated in April to just $72,537 collected in May.

Total igaming revenues in May were down 27% to $175,601 from a record high of $240,496 in the previous month.

In addition, the Delaware Lottery was only able to report 342 new online gaming accounts in May, down 15.8% on the previous month and a figure that reflects an ongoing decline in the amount of new sign-ups since igaming became regulated in the state last November.
