Sky Betting and Gaming, the online gaming subsidiary of UK pay-television broadcaster BSkyB, has reported a major year-on-year revenue jump during the three months to September 30, 2014.
The broadcaster said that its subsidiary generated revenue of £56 million (€70 million/$89.6 million) in the first quarter, up 60% on the corresponding period last year.
BSkyB said the significant growth in revenue during the period was due to the impact of the Fifa World Cup national football team tournament, which took place in Brazil from June 12 until July 13.
The broadcaster posted overall revenue of £1.9 billion, which is up 6% on the £1.3 billion achieved in the same period in 2013.
