Smith to assume Chakmak’s COO responsibilities at Boyd Gaming

US casino operator Boyd Gaming has confirmed that Paul Chakmak is to step down from his role as chief operating officer, with president and chief executive officer Keith Smith set to assume his responsibilities.

The exit of Chakmak, who will relinquish his role on September 19, marks the latest in a line of recent executive changes at Boyd.

In July, Chris Gibase was appointed to the newly-created position of senior vice-president and chief marketing officer, while Steve Schutte and Vince Schwartz took on the position of senior vice-president operations.

In addition, Boyd also expanded the responsibilities of Ted Bogich, senior vice-president, operations if the company’s Midwest properties.

Speaking about Chakmak’s exit, Smith said: “Paul helped strengthen our financial organisation as chief financial officer, and as chief operating officer he helped guide our operations through a period of significant expansion.

“However, given today’s operating environment, we believe that more direct oversight and a streamlined decision-making process will position us to improve our operating performance going forward, and allow us to execute our growth strategy more quickly and effectively.”
