US operator Caesars Entertainment Corporation has reportedly been issued with a $10,000 (€7,993) fine by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) for sending promotional material to people who had voluntarily excluded themselves from online gambling in the US state.
The fine, which was issued to Caesars Interactive Entertainment, an affiliate of Caesars Entertainment, after the distribution of various promotional materials via email between February 16 and May 28 of this year.
The emails were sent to more than 250 people who had opted to sign up to New Jersey’s self-exclusion list, which enables people to voluntarily ban themselves from online gaming or playing in land-based casinos.
New Jersey regulations state that casinos and online gaming operators are not allowed to solicit people who have signed up to the list or send them any promotional materials.
Kerry Langan, a spokeswoman for the DGE, told the PressofAtlanticCity.com website that the fine is the first of its kind imposed on an operator since the state opted to regulate online gaming in November 2013.
