A Marathonbet Sportsbook (SBR rating B) player has claimed that he has been locked out of a betting account containing over 35,000 Russian Rubles (approximately $754).
The player deposited 30,000 RUB on September 23 via Qiwi wallet. He won his first few bets before Marathonbet locked his account the same day.
Within 48 hours of having his account access revoked, the player provided a copy of his passport and utility bill. Marathonbet then requested additional forms of ID as part of their KYC process; on September 28 he provided a copy of his birth certificate. Then he was asked to provide a photo holding his passport, he did so and provided this scan on October 1. He was then asked to provide a photo holding his birth certificate, which he supplied on October 2.
Despite the wide range of documents provided, Marathonbet is unsatisfied the player is who he claims to be.
Sportsbook Review has asked Marathonbet if they would be willing to unlock his account if any of his documents were verified by a notary.
Marathonbet players have generally complained over delays attached to the betting site’s verification procedure. SBR reported a case update on October 27; Marathonbet addressed a dispute where a player had €1466 confiscated. The sportsbook believed the player’s documents to have been fraudulent.
Marathonbet has cited the following policy in such complaints:
“If we have any concerns about the identity of a customer, the validity of the address/credit/debit card details quoted or any other details provided we reserve the right to request whatever documentation we deem appropriate to prove the details given, and withhold any payment until we are satisfied of the authenticity of all the details we have been given. Should the details we have been given prove to be false we reserve the right to void any bets placed on this account and to withhold any payments indefinitely.”
