Spanish gambling regulator Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) has cited the impact of this year’s Fifa World Cup national football team tournament as the main reason behind a year-on-year jump in national online gaming revenue in the three months through to September 30.
Revenue in the third quarter amounted to €62 million ($77.6 million), which represents a year-on-year increase of 19% as well as a jump of 7% on the amount generated during the second quarter of this year.
Online sportsbooks operating in the Spanish market were responsible for 54% of this total having generated €33.7 million in the period, up 35% on the previous year and a rise of 6% on the second quarter of 2014.
Elsewhere, poker revenue amounted to €17.2 million, which represents a year-on-year growth of 9% and a jump of 12% in comparison with Q2 of this year.
Revenue from online casinos in Spain totalled €8.5 million in the third quarter, which is 5% higher than in the same period last year but 7% lower than the amount generated in the second quarter of this year.
