DraftKings named fantasy sports partner of Philadelphia 76ers

Online fantasy sports operator DraftKings has secured its second partnership with a high-profile US sports team, becoming the official daily fantasy game partner of basketball team the Philadelphia 76ers. DraftKings becomes the first fantasy sports operator to agree a deal with a National Basketball Association (NBA) team. The operator will integrate its offering with the Sixers’ official website, its Sixth Man newsletter and mobile application. It will also present the Sixers Radio Broadcast alongside the team’s main broadcaster Tom McGinnis.

In addition, DraftKings will offer a range of daily and weekly fantasy sports contests, offering customers cash prizes which are awarded following each game.

Sixers chief executive Scott O’Neil said there was an incredible opportunity for sports clubs to enter the fantasy gaming market, adding that he was proud his team had become the first side in the NBA to partner DraftKings.

“DraftKings is on the cutting edge of the industry, boldly moving their business forward while taking intelligent risks – philosophies that embody the work we strive to accomplish every day at the Sixers,” he explained. “Today marks yet another step forward for us as we continue to revolutionize our partnerships, online offerings and fan engagement.”

DraftKings chief executive Jason Robins commented that he was pleased to be aligned with one of the NBA’s flagship franchises.

“They are a remarkably well-run organization with incredibly entrenched fans, whom we are looking forward to exciting with our daily fantasy contests, experiences, and awards,” Robins said.

DraftKings has already partnered National Football League team the New England Patriots, based in its home city of Boston, as well as agreeing a similar partnership with the National Hockey League.

The Sixers, meanwhile, was one of the first US sports teams to partner an online gaming operator when it agreed a sponsorship deal with bwin.party earlier this year, alongside NHL side the New Jersey Devils.
