Churchill Downs appoints new member to board of directors

US gaming and racetrack operator Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) has appointed Aditi Javeri Gokhale, a senior executive at health and wellness product retailer Nutrisystem with a wealth of digital-focused experience, to its board of directors. Gokhale, who serves as senior vice president and general manager of digital for Nutrisystem, has been appointed as a Class III director at CDI.

She will serve on the operator’s ten-member board until the company’s 2015 annual general meeting, where she will be nominated for official election to the board by CDI’s shareholders.

Before joining Nutrisystem, Gokhale worked in a number of digital-focused roles, including working in the travel industry and co-founding web design and marketing business iQuanti.

CDI chairman Robert Evans said he was “thrilled” to have Gokhale join the board.

“Our online business has expanded significantly in recent years, notably with the acquisition of Big Fish Games and the growth of Twinspires.com, and Aditi’s large-company and entrepreneurial career experiences at Nutrisystem, online travel-search firm IgoUgo.com, American Express and Booz & Co., are directly relevant to CDI’s digital future,” he explained.

Following the appointment, Gokhale said: “I am honored to join the board of a great company that preserves the values and traditions of its 140-year history while leveraging digital technologies and social media to pursue future growth.”

She becomes the first director appointed to CDI’s board following the resignation of Leonard Coleman in December last year. Coleman stepped down after more than 13 years on the company’s board following its acquisition of Big Fish Games, as his dual role as a director of Electronic Arts, which also has interests in the social gaming sector, had created a conflict of interest.
