The Russian government is reportedly to begin blocking online gambling payments methods in order to prevent any fraud in a new internet betting framework.
Last month a self-regulatory organisation (SRO) was formed in the country as part of a wider effort to combat illegal betting.
Gambling operators in the country are now required to sign up with the SRO, with one of its functions to include a payment processing system.
Under this arrangement, all players’ funds will be channelled through the system in order for the SRO and Russian authorities to monitor transactions.
This will allow the authorities to see which operators are offering services under a licence and identify those that are operating illegally without a permit.
Once the system has been implemented, the Russian government will ask all payments systems in the country to stop the arrangements of payments with companies that have not signed up to the SRO.
