DraftKings partners NBA’s Golden State Warriors

Fantasy sports operator DraftKings has finalised a partnership with the Golden State Warriors, the California-based National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise. DraftKings becomes the official sponsor of the Warriors’ special Slate Night events, which sees the Warriors wear special dark uniforms during the match, while the team’s cheerleading squad and various DJs entertain the crowd in a bid to better engage fans and create a sense of occasion around certain matches.

Through the sponsorship deal Slate Night will be advertised as “presented by DraftKings” with the partnership also covering additional sales and marketing elements to promote both the team and the fantasy sports product.

The semi-regular event was introduced in December last year, with the Warriors yet to be defeated on a designated Slate Night.

“As we continue to look for ways to further engage our fans, partnering with fantasy sports leaders like DraftKings makes perfect sense,” Warriors president and chief operating officer Rick Welts commented. “We are excited to partner with a well-respected and innovative fantasy sports leader and be one of the first teams in the NBA to officially partner with DraftKings.”

DraftKings co-founder and chief executive Jason Robins commented that Slate Night brought “a unique energy” to the team’s Oracle Arena, and he was honoured that his company would be a part of the event.

“The rise in daily fantasy sports has garnered interest from fans and professional teams across the country, and we’re looking forward to working with the Warriors to see how we can leverage that popularity to bring them even closer to their fans,” Robins added.
