Data reveals substantial growth in Danish gambling market

The Spillemyndigheden Danish national gambling regulatory body has released new data that shows substantial growth in the country’s betting and online casino market during the past two years.

Gross gaming revenue generated within the domestic market in 2014 is expected to amount to just under DDK7.8 billion (€905.2 million/$960.6 million), up from DDK7.5 billion at the end of 2012.

Betting is the largest contributor to Denmark’s wider gambling market having generated DDK1.8 billion in 2014, which is substantially higher than the DDK1.2 billion in 2012.

Denmark’s online casino market has also experienced heavy growth during the past two years, increasing from DDK870 million in 2012 to $1.1 billion by the end of last year.

However, despite these two sectors having recorded growth, the land-based casino and gaming machine markets have suffered since 2012.

Gaming machines generated DDK1.5 billion in revenue during 2014, where as this sector recorded revenues of DDK1.8 billion in 2012.

Meanwhile, the country’s seven land-based casinos have seen revenue fall from DDK345 million in 2012 to DDK325 million last year.
