Dutch Remote Gambling Act in doubt as founder resigns

The future of the new Dutch Remote Gambling Act has been cast into doubt after its founder, Fred Teeven, State Secretary for Justice, resigned from his position.

Teeven, who has reportedly stepped due to political reasons, was the founder of a plan that was designed to reform the Dutch games of chance market.

However, his resignation means the future of the legislation is now uncertain.

These doubts are even stronger given that the country will next week face elections that will have a heavy influence on the formation of the new Senate in May.

The Dutch Remote Gambling Act is yet to be passed by the country’s House of Representatives, after which it will be handed to the new Senate and considered for introduction into law.
