A GR88 Sportsbook player has filed a complaint against the betting site with SBR.
The player has claimed after winning a big bet on Manchester City in the English Premier league, his account was closed and nearly €3,400 in profits deducted from his balance.
GR88 advised the player that he had breached their terms and conditions, but provided no other specifics.
It is true that online sportsbooks are within their right to close accounts, for any reason whatsoever. It is exactly the same as a restaurant manager being within their right to deny a customer; however, just as a restaurant cannot make a player pay for a meal without delivering it, an online sportsbook cannot accept a bet and then not pay out winnings.
Only in few instances of outright fraud, such as deposits not clearing or identities being stolen, would the outright confiscation of winnings be merited.
Additionally, the emphasis is on risk management departments to properly identify and take action before a player runs up a balance or asks for his first ever withdrawal. GR88 has failed to respond to Sportsbook Review on a similar complaint reported last week where a player had €4,596 in winnings confiscated.
Sportsbook Review is following up on this latest complaint.
GR88 players in need of assistance should submit a sportsbook complaint form.
