Payments provider Optimal Payments has signed a strategic agreement with global bitcoin payment service provider BitPay. The deal will see the company’s NETELLER customers able to top up their accounts by exchanging Bitcoin into one of the currencies offered by NETELLER.
“NETELLER already provides merchants and customers a broad and diverse set of online payment options and the addition of Bitcoin gives them another valuable payment method to help convert more transactions,” said Joel Leonoff, president and CEO of Optimal Payments. “We recognise the important role that crypto-currencies play in the future of payments and we look forward to working with BitPay as the acceptance rate grows.”
BitPay’s chief operating officer Sonny Singh added: “Bitcoin’s popularity is growing rapidly and has established itself as the most secure, most widely accepted digital currency. This relationship with Optimal Payments will help us to drive merchant acceptance on a global scale.”
In related news, Optimal recently announced the appointment of Shane Hibbeler to the newly created role of vice president of sales.
In his new role, Hibbeler will lead Optimal’s’ independent contractor and direct sales channels for NETBANX, the company’s Straight Through Processing division. Together with his teams, he will help provide cutting-edge payment processing solutions that enable clients to grow domestically and internationally. He will be based out of the company’s office in Irvine, California.
“Shane has led both internal and external sales teams to help financial services organizations achieve tremendous growth,” said Danny Chazonoff, chief operating officer of Optimal Payments. “His past experience will make Shane a true asset to Optimal Payments as we continue to grow in the U.S. market.”
Prior to joining Optimal, Hibbeler was the national sales director of the agent program for TransFirst, , where he created and led the company’s independent sales contractor program. He previously served as president and CEO for Interchange Solution, an independent sales organization, as well as senior positions at Century Payments and Chase Paymentech Solutions.
