The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) has revealed that casinos operating in the Atlantic City region of the US state experienced a significant year-on-year jump in profit during 2014.
Figures released by the regulatory body show that total operating profit for casinos in Atlantic City amounted to $341.1 million (€313.8 million) in 2014, up 45% on the $235.7 million achieved in the previous 12 months.
Casinos that offer some form of online gaming service led the way in terms of the amount of profit generated during the year.
The Borgata is the most successful casino in the state with an operating profit of $158.5 million in 2014, up 30% on the previous year.
However, the Tropicana was able to achieve the most growth in 2014, with operating profit at the facility up 125% year-on-year from $26.5 million in 2013 to $59.9 million in the past 12 months.
The positive figures will come as a major boost to Atlantic City, which suffered a number of casino closures in 2014.
Of the 12 casinos that begun 2014 in operation, just eight remained open by the end of the year.
