Anti-online poker bill put forward in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania State Representative Thomas Murt has introduced a new bill in an effort to ban online poker activities in the US state.

House Bill 1013, which has already attracted the support of seven co-sponsors, will sit alongside three other bills that have been introduced by various State Representative in the hope of legalising online poker in Pennsylvania.

Earlier this month, State Representative Tina Davis introduced House Bill 920, while both Representatives John Payne and Nick Miccarelli have put forward pro-online gaming bills of their own.

Murt sits on the state’s House Gaming Oversight Committee, which is chaired by online gaming supporter Payne.

Despite Murt’s bill having little chance of passing due to Payne’s current stance on online gaming, House Bill 1013 clearly sets out Murt’s own position on such activities in the state.

“The [Gaming Control] board shall not promulgate rules and regulations allowing any form of Internet gambling,” the bill stated.

“No individual or entity shall solicit, invite, collect or accept cash or any other form of currency through the Internet for the purposes of wagering or betting.

“No individual or entity shall organise, or cause to be organised, any type of gambling event that is held over the internet.”
