Mecca appoints Sainsbury’s veteran as new marketing chief

Rank Group brand Mecca Bingo has hired Anna Shirley, formerly a marketing executive at UK supermarket Sainsbury’s, as its new marketing director.

Shirley begins her role on August 3rd, working under Mecca’s managing director Martin Pugh, and will take overall responsibility for digital and retail marketing.

She joins from Sainsbury’s where she has served in a number of senior marketing roles over the past 13 years having joined in 2002. During her time she has held positions including head of national advertising, head of own brand marketing, head of local marketing and most recently as head of customer experience.

“I am delighted to be working with Mecca as marketing director,” Shirley said of her new role. “It’s a fantastic business and the company has great plans for its future. I’m looking forward to joining a great team.”

Mecca Bingo managing director Pugh said he was delighted to have the opportunity to work with Shirley.

“She brings a wealth of retail marketing experience which will undoubtedly add momentum to the solid growth and success of the business over the last year,” he said.
