PokerStars increases activity ahead of daily fantasy sports launch

Amaya-owned PokerStars has increased its marketing activities ahead of the potential launch of a new daily fantasy sports services in the US later this year.

As reported by iGaming Business earlier this year, Amaya chief executive David Baazov suggested the company was planning to launch a fantasy sports service that would be targeted at former PokerStars players in the US.

Baazov said Amaya hoped to have the product operational in time for the start of the 2015 NFL American football season, which is due to begin in September.

“We have also taken the strategic decision to enter the daily fantasy sports category and are pursuing parallel tracks of internal development and strategic acquisition,” Baazov said in March.

“We expect to provide more details on this strategy in the second half of 2015 but see a clear crossover from poker and daily fantasy sports.”

With the start of the season just over a month away, PokerStars has contacted many of its former customers in the US to gather opinion on a new daily fantasy sports product.

Those contacted were asked to take part in a survey that queried what sort of fantasy sports games that had played, if they had ever played for real money and the sorts of bonuses and promotions they considered the most attractive.
