A Rivalo Sportsbook (SBR rating D-) player has submitted a complaint against the online sportsbook.
The player has claimed that after a few months of betting with Rivalo without incident, Rivalo decided to close her account and confiscate approximately $400.
The player was accused of being linked with another user and of having a “suspicious” betting style.
The Rivalo player denies this charge adamantly and insists that she followed the rules.
Sportsbook Review has covered in the past how online sportsbooks may unfairly target female sports bettors, subjecting them to additional layers of verification than their male peers, fearing that their boyfriends or husbands are using their identities to circumvent wagering limits, receive more bonuses, or simply to play there if their partners are banned from having accounts.
The player believes that the online sportsbook has simply discriminated against her and concocted a reason not to pay due to her gender, though Rivalo said nothing of the sort in their letter closing the players account:
Rivalo Sportsbook: “We would like to inform you that, after reviewing your Rivalo-Account (sic) thoroughly, our Risk Management department has gathered sufficient evidence to link you to another user registered with Rivalo which as such already is a breach of our terms and conditions. Moreover, suspicious betting patterns were detected and therefore your account will remain closed and all funds within have been detained.”
Sportsbook Review has followed up with the online sportsbook to discuss their reason for confiscating the $400, and for not refunding the player’s initial deposit. Even when online sportsbooks decide a player has violated their terms and conditions, seizing deposits constitutes theft and is not the course taken by reputable sports betting websites.
