Spire partners Poplatek Oy to launch RAY payment solutions

Spire Payments has partnered Finnish service provider Poplatek Oy to secure a contract to supply state-owned gaming operator Rahaautomaattiyhdistys (RAY) with more than 15,000 payment devices.

The deal will see Spire work with Poplatek to provide RAY with chip-and-pin and contactless payment devices in what is described as the largest deployment of such technology in Finland to date. It will see all of RAY’s new gaming machines and sales outlets equipped with the most up-to-date payment technology available.

The pair will roll out SPp30 payment devices, allowing customers to pay securely by debit card, while an application developed by Poplatek and supported by Spire’s technology will process contactless payments, as well as paying winnings directly back to the customer account.

“We are excited to work with Spire Payments and Poplatek Oy on this project,” RAY chief operating officer Timo Kiiskinen commented. “The installation of the latest payment technology will ensure we can provide further value added features to our customers in the future.”

Poplatek managing director Mikko Virtanen described the project as a “significant milestone” for his company, explaining that it had been made possible by Spire Payment’s inSpire development toolkit.

“Deployment has already begun and we envisage this as the first step in a long and successful relationship with Spire Payments and RAY,” he said.

Spire chief executive Kazem Aminaee said: “We are delighted to be part of the RAY project which has been made possible by the local capabilities of Poplatek Oy, the SPp30 platform and our Linux based software development toolkit which promotes both rapid and secure application development.

“This not only demonstrates the ability for our partners to rapidly develop customer-specific payment solutions, but also Spire Payments’ commitment to meet the demands of the latest technologies, support our international customer base while also enabling continued global growth for our business.”

RAY currently operates over 21,000 slot machines in thousands of locations across Finland such as hotels, restaurants, cafes, service stations, markets, kiosks and arcades, with the business expected to generate more than €309m for health and social welfare organisations in 2015.
