London-listed mobile gaming platform provider Nektan said Friday that it has become one of the first operators to be granted a remote betting intermediary licence for the Irish market.
The company said that it had successfully gained approval for the licence, in accordance with new regulations which will come into effect on tomorrow (August 1st).
“We are pleased that Nektan is among the very first operators to have gained approval for a gaming licence in Ireland,” said Nektan CEO David Gosen. “This builds on the company’s momentum within the Irish market in recent months, having welcomed Independent News & Media and TV3 as new live partners onto our gaming network.
“We will continue to seek further opportunities in Ireland as part of our ongoing growth strategy.”
Ireland’s Betting (Amendment) Act 2015 was signed into earlier this year in March, updating and extending the country’s regulatory regime in relation to bookmakers licences, as provided for in the Betting Act 1931, to include remote betting operators who accept bets from Irish customers.
All remote bookmaker’s and remote betting intermediaries providing betting services to customers in Ireland will be required to hold a licence by tomorrow, after which it will be illegal to provide such services.
