Denmark reports further online casino revenue growth in Q2

Danish national gambling regulatory body Spillemyndigheden has revealed that the country’s online casino market experienced further revenue growth during the second quarter, following up on an increase in the opening three months of the year.

Revenue from online casino activities in the second quarter totalled DDK335 million (€44.9 million/$49.6 million), up from DDK270 million in the same period last year and an increase on the DDK310 million posted in the first quarter of this year.

Revenue generated by online poker activities remained level on a year-on-year basis at DDK40 million, but this figure does represent a slight drop on the DDK50 million collected in the first quarter.

The regulatory body noted that total revenue for the second quarter amounted to DDK805 million, higher than the DDK715 million posted in the corresponding period last year and up from the DDK750 million recorded in the first quarter of 2015.

This total was also boosted by a jump in gaming machine revenue, which increased from DDK395 million in the second quarter of 2014 to DDK415 million in the same period this year.

This represents the first time that revenue from gaming machines has surpassed the DDK440 million mark since the second quarter of 2013.

The regulator also noted that revenue from land-based casinos edged up from DDK85 million in Q2 last year to DDK90 million in the most recent quarter.
