VIPSports.eu Sportsbook (SBR rating D-) has agreed to settle the $1,000 wagering complaint involving an NHL prop wager.
A player wagered $350 on Justin Williams winning the Conn Smythe award (the NHL Playoffs’ MVP award) two years ago.
Originally, his ticket paid $2,000. The sportsbook first altered the payout based on a risk amount of $30. SBR argued that this was unfair, because the wager was accepted by the software as normal, and there was no documentation showing that the player was made aware of a certain limit.
Eventually the sportsbook proposed a settlement of $1,000 to resolve the complaint. The player agreed, though both parties felt the other was to blame for the incident; the sportsbook contended the player saw that he was able to get more money down on prop wagers than standard NHL limits, and proceeded to empty his balance on several NHL prop bets, with the $350 on Williams winning. He would have broken even otherwise.
The player acknowledged wanting to wager elsewhere given the low limits in general.
After a lengthy discussion with SBR, the online sportsbook agreed to honor the full ticket to put the issue to rest. The player will be paid when Skrill becomes available at the sportsbook.
