Racebets.com granted first German horseracing licence

German racing operator RaceBets.com has become the first company to secure a horse betting licence in the country.

The operator, which was last month also awarded a full UK licence, will now be able to offer its services to punters in the German market.

Germany’s current laws regarding horse betting were introduced in July 2012 and RaceBets.com becomes the first bookmaker in the country to fully company with the regulations.

Patrick Byrne, managing director of RaceBets.com, said: “We are delighted and exceptionally proud to be the first German bookmaker to receive the licence.

“The decision vindicates all the effort and hard work that has been carried out by the whole team, over the last few years, to achieve this milestone.”

RaceBets.com, which also holds licences in Malta and Ireland, was last year one of 20 companies to receive a German sports betting licence.

However, the future of the country’s sports betting market remains uncertain, with the European Court of Justice last week warning that its review of the Hesse Ministry of Interior and Sports regulatory framework was to be delayed.
