Sports and betting-related services company Sportradar has struck a multi-year deal to become the exclusive third-party provider of real-time game data for the NHL ice hockey league.
Although the terms of the deal were not disclosed, it was confirmed that the new partnership will come into effect from the 2015-16 season.
Under the agreement, Sportradar will provide real-time play-by-play and game statistics via the NHL’s Hockey Information Tracking System (HITS) to media and technology companies around the world.
Data available through HITS includes time on ice, shots on goal, shot types and face-off percentage.
“This partnership with Sportradar advances our commitment to statistics as a storytelling too,” NHL executive vice-president of digital media and strategic planning, Stephen McArdle, said.
“We recognise that innovative technology helps bring game statistics to life and showcases the extraordinary talent in the NHL.”
Steve Byrd, chief commercial officer at Sportradar US, added: “The NHL’s rich content is a tremendous addition to the Sportradar portfolio.
“Not only will we provide the fastest NHL data directly from the rink, but our development team will use this data within a dynamic new suite of visual products and applications that will enhance the hockey experience for fans.”
