Payne says Pennsylvania online gaming bill will not pass this year

Pennsylvania State Representative John Payne has admitted that a bill he has put forward in an effort to legalise online gaming in the US state will not pass this year and will instead be pushed to the spring of 2016.

Introduced by Payne earlier this year, HB 649 pushes for the regulation and legalisation of online gambling to existing licence holders in the state, similar to the regulatory framework currently used in New Jersey.

The Pennsylvania House Gaming Oversight Committee last month voted 18-8 in favour of the bill, which can now be put forward for a full House vote.

Should it gain approval in the full House, the bill it will then move forward to the senate for consideration, before being passed to Governor Tom Wolf to decide whether to sign into law or veto.

Despite having made progress this year, Payne told the CardPlayer.com website that the bill will not be up for consideration until the spring.

The website also reports that online gaming will be considered along with the state’s pension issue next year.
