Intralot expands into Kenyan sports betting market

Intralot is to begin offering sports betting services in Kenya after striking a 10-year with Acumen Communications Limited (ACL).

Under the agreement, Intralot will organise sports betting services in the country under the brand name mCHEZA.

Launched last week, mCHEZA will initially be made available on mobile phones, with additional products and services to be rolled out in due course.

mCHEZA will be deployed on the Intralot iFlex sports betting platform, while the overall solution will include a mobile native application, supported by iGaming Console, player account management, customer relationship management solutions, together with Intralot’sʼs Horizon system.

As part of the deal, ACL and Intralot will partner with telecommunications firm Safaricom, through its mobile payment platform MPESA, data centre and cloud services.

“Numerous sports, markets and betting modes will be incorporated on the platform in the first quarter of 2016, with live betting to follow thereafter,” mCHEZA chief executive Peter Karimi said.

“The platform is working on a strategic expansion plan into other East African markets from 2016.”

Antonis Markopoulos, vice-president business development, Europe and Africa at Intralot, added: “Our investment in Kenya comes just a few months after our project in Nigeria, ratifying our dedication to further penetrate to the African continent.

“Intralot’s iFlex platform will efficiently implement our expert know-how and offer to the Kenyan players a fully personalised, unique and entertaining game experience, while enhancing the principles of responsible gaming countrywide. Kenya sets the basis of the expansion of our presence in East Africa.”
