Veikkaus adds ID requirement and €1,500 loss cap for retail betting

Finnish betting operator Veikkaus has added identification requirements and a daily wager limit for retail bets on final match results, coming into effect on 10 June.

Any such bets made at points of sale will have a daily €1,500 purchase limit, and the introduction of the ID requirement is in keeping with Veikkaus’ responsible gaming initiatives, having already been introduced for slot machines.

The player must be registered as a “Veikkaus Loyal Customer”, and will be able to present forms of identification such as a driver’s license or a Veikkaus card. The company hopes that this will facilitate age limit controls with regards to betting, as well as allowing players to keep track of their betting history.

The rules will apply for bets placed at shops, kiosks, traffic service stations, restaurants and Veikkaus’ own gaming venues.

Veikkaus’ betting director Juha-Matti Mäkilä said: “The condition of identification and the spending limit also mean that we are better able to prevent money laundering and match fixing in fixed-odds betting, which has been the most sensitive to abuse as a game form.

“In Finland, match fixing and related betting abuses have already become smaller than in our neighboring countries. We are now continuing this work with the identification requirement and daily €1,500 purchase limit for point-of-sale gaming.”

Earlier this year, Veikkaus extended its €500 temporary loss limit for online casino games until 30 June.
