Online gaming operator 888 will review its sponsorship deal with Luis Suarez after the Uruguay international footballer was accused of biting an opponent during a Fifa World Cup match earlier this week.
Suarez, who also plays for Liverpool in the English Premier League top-tier club competition, became a brand ambassador for 888 last month.
However, the striker has been the subject of controversy this week after he appeared to bite Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during a World Cup Group D match between Uruguay and Italy on Tuesday.
Uruguay went on to win the match 1-0 and, as a result, qualified for the last 16 stage of the tournament.
However, Suarez will take no further part in the competition after being handed a nine-match ban by football’s governing body Fifa. The striker has also been banned from all football for four months.
The gaming operator said: “Following the allegations made against Luis Suarez in regards to his behaviour during Uruguay’s World Cup match against Italy, 888poker is seriously reviewing its relationship with the player as we will not tolerate any unsporting behaviour.”
Suarez has been banned for biting on two previous occasions.
