Canadian lottery games developer Karma Gaming has launched a new series of what it describes as next-generation lottery games with the release of two titles combining hidden object games and crosswords, in which players can win cash prizes. Karma claims that the two titles, Haunted Hotel and Secrets of the Pyramids, are the first-ever episodic lottery games, featuring storylines that play out over multiple levels.
Each level contains a hidden object puzzle and a crossword, where players have to uncover hidden letters within the puzzle to solve the crossword and win real-money prizes.
The game also comes with bonus cash mini-games and hidden clues to solve a mystery running through the storyline, as well as hidden notes and artefacts generally found in console or social games.
Each product is to be made available in HTML5, Flash or native iOS through Karma directly and via distribution partners GTECH and Scientific Games.
It is not yet known whether the games will also go live on the Odobo Marketplace, after Karma signed a content distribution agreement with the real-money platform provider last week.
“Karma has gained deep understanding of how to effectively combine the thrill of winning and gambling, with the entertainment value of gaming,” the company’s chief innovation officer Jay Aird commented.
“Word-based games and puzzle games are universally popular among lottery players and casual gamers alike, and also share similar player profiles,” he added.
The company’s chief executive Paul LeBlanc commented that with lotteries worldwide suffering from an aging player base and a lack of relevance among younger audience, “by reimagining a familiar lottery instant win game as a casual game [Karma is] making lottery relevant to the digital generation.”
