German gaming giant Gauselmann Group has appointed former NOVOMATIC executive Charles Hiten as the new managing director of Merkur Gaming Americas.
Hiten takes over the role from his former NOVOMATIC colleague Jens Halle, who was appointed chief executive of Merkur in January this year, shortly before his untimely death.
Hiten has been tasked with continuing Halle’s work to consolidate and expand sales across the Americas. Working from Florida, he will be in charge of business activities in the Americas and Caribbean, as well as the Cruise Lines business area.
“With Charles Hiten, we have gained a former colleague and close friend of Jens Halle for this important key position on the American continent,” Gauselmann Group sales director Jürgen Stühmeyer said.
“He is an acknowledged expert in the industry and will enrich Merkur Gaming with his wealth of knowledge and experience. I’m convinced that Charles Hiten will successfully continue our company strategy in the American market.”
An industry veteran with more than 15 years’ experience, Hiten has previously worked for NOVOMATIC, where he held numerous roles at the Austrian supplier’s Chile-based business. He has also spent time working for Austrian Gaming Industries, South Africa’s Sun International and Argentinean casino games developer Octavian Global Technologies.
“The collaboration with Merkur Gaming and the resulting potential are a promising opportunity both for me, as well as for our customers and business partners,” Hiten said. “Together, we want to continue on the path that Jens Halle began, namely of positioning Merkur Gaming as the most important provider in the Americas region.”
