PokerStars secures sports betting licence in Ireland

Amaya-owned PokerStars has been awarded a Remote Bookmaker’s Licence in the Republic of Ireland, enabling the online gambling operator to begin offering sports betting services in the country.

Granted by the Irish Revenue Commissioners national betting regulatory body, the licence will see the gambling brand pay local betting duty to the country’s government.

PokerStars will offer the new services through its established gaming website in the country, with players in Ireland not experiencing any changes in the software or services.

The operator will offer betting across 18 sports, with more markets and sports, including horse racing, to be added soon.

PokerStars’ existing poker and casino games in Ireland will continue to operate under its European license from Malta.

Stephen Fisk, managing director of sports betting at PokerStars, said: “Our operation of poker, casino games, and now sports betting shows that players trust us to deliver a variety of games in a fun and exciting way.

“We look forward to building on this by operating under this new licence.”
