DraftKings set for October UK launch, will share player pools with US

Jason Robins, chief executive of DraftKings, has said that the daily fantasy sports operator is likely to launch its services in the UK market next month.

As reported by iGaming Business, DraftKings in August revealed plans to expand into the UK after securing a licence from the UK Gambling Commission.

At the time, the daily fantasy sports operator said it would launch its services in the UK at some point during the fourth quarter.

Speaking during an interview on the RotoGrinders podcast, Robins said that the DraftKings product will “probably” go live in the UK in “mid to late October”.

Robins also revealed that DraftKings will share liquidity in the UK with the US market.

“There absolutely will be pooled liquidity,” Robins said.

“Trying to build something from scratch country to country isn’t really interesting.

“When you can enter a market like the UK and come locked and loaded with millions and millions in prizes and millions of people playing, you’re going to be a lot more successful getting people to try and retain on the platform.

“And ultimately it’s just like having a marketing channel, it’s just another place to build our player base faster than our competition.”

Robins also reiterated DraftKings’ desire to expand into Europe, Asia and Latin America, while also noting that Australia is a “really interesting market” for the company.

He also said fantasy products for cricket and rugby, both of which are popular sports in the UK, are likely to launch next year.
