Dafabet has agreed a deal to become the title sponsor of World Snooker’s new Gibraltar Open tournament.
Although the terms of the agreement were not disclosed, it was confirmed that the deal would be in place for this year’s inaugural event, which starts today (Friday) and will be known as the Dafabet Gibraltar Open.
Running until Sunday December 13 at the Tercentenary Sports Hall, the event will feature snooker stars Mark Selby, Judd Trump, John Higgins, Jimmy White and Ding Junhui.
The Gibraltar Open will run for the next three seasons, with support from the Ministry of Sports and HM Government of Gibraltar.
“Having worked with World Snooker for a number of years now, we are delighted to be title sponsors for this new tournament as they continue to grow the sport worldwide,” Dafabet’s head of sports marketing and sponsorships, John Cruces, said.
World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn added: “Dafabet already sponsor the Masters and we’re thrilled that they have decided to add to their portfolio of snooker events.
“This will be the first tournament we have staged in Gibraltar and every time we host an event in a new territory it’s another step towards snooker’s global expansion.”
