New Jersey boosted by online gaming growth in October

New Jersey has revealed that growth within the US state’s online gaming market led to a rise in total casino win in October.

Internet gaming win amounted to €20.6m (17.5m) last month, up 23.4% on the $16.7m posted in October 2016.

Although casino win was down 0.3% year-on-year to $185.8m, the performance of the New Jersey online gambling sector in October helped to push total casino win up 1.7% to $206.4m.

Slot machines remain the main source of income for land-based casinos, with the $135.3m generated in revenue 1.1% more than in October of last year, although casinos did note a decline in table games revenue, down 3.7% to €50.5m.

For the year-to-date, through to the end of October, internet gaming win came in at $204.2m, some 26.7% more than in the corresponding period last year.

New Jersey casino win was also slightly up to $2.04bn, with total gaming win in the state for the 10 months to October 31 amounted to $2.25bn, up 2.2% on the previous year.

The online gambling market in New Jersey could further expand after the state last month entered into an interstate compact with Delaware and Nevada to begin sharing online poker player pools.

Delaware and Nevada already have a deal in place to share player pools, but the new agreement will open the door for punters in New Jersey to also take part.
