According to the Casinos-online.co.uk website, the Slovenian government has notified the European Commission of its intentions and presented a draft proposal.
Local media reports suggest the proposal is likely to ensure the state retains the national lottery, but a five-year licence for sportsbetting and up to 30 for casino gaming will be made available to suitable applicants.
The draft is also reported to include the standard set of regulatory measures to guard against unlicensed operators, such as the imposition of heavy fines, restrictions on financial transactions with illegal sites and ISP blocking, as ordered by the regulator.
