Joonas Karhu, chief business officer at online gambling comparison site Bojoko, has launched a new industry group to help improve the relationship between affiliates and operators.
The Professional Gambling Affiliates Association (PGAA) will focus on ensuring affiliates are treated fairly and given a greater degree of contractual security.
Karhu claims affiliates that are forced to sign agreements that are one-sided and subject to change. This, he said, could see revenue share agreements altered and fees increased with little notice.
The role of the PGAA will be to create a contract framework that offers greater security to affiliates, and will need to be signed by all of its affiliate members, as well as by their operator partners.
Bojoko will handle the initial communication between the PGAA and operators, as well as cover legal costs associated with creating the PGAA contract.
“The situation online gambling affiliates face is unprecedented when compared with other industries and sectors,” Karhu said. “Running a business without a secured contract is simply unsustainable and puts organisations and their employees at great risk.
“By creating the PGAA, I hope to be able to provide the contractual security that affiliates need to be able to promote operator brands and be confident that the players they send and the revenues they generate are secured over time.”
