World Poker Tour Montreal: Derrick Rosenbarger Leads Day 1B

World Poker Tour (WPT) Montreal continues to cut through the ice in the PlayGround Poker Club with Derrick Rosenbarger coming out on top of the 128 surviving players on Day 1B.

The Playground Poker Club in Montreal may be attracting more stars than a clear night in December but it’s one of the lesser known players who holds the chip lead after the 10-levels of Day 1B evaporated into the ether.

Derrick Rosenbarger, only has one live tournament cash on his resume, but that hasn’t stopped him headlining poker news outlets all over the web, after amassing 211,200 chips to put him behind the Day 1A chip leader Sebastien Dolet-Poltras with one more starting flight left to play.

Day 1B attracted 308 entrants and 128 players survived the cull. That means there are currently 220 players from a field of 523 entrants, that have navigated their way through a plethora of suck outs and bad beats to enclose chips in plastic bags that won’t be opened again until Day 2 starts in earnest on Monday.

Joining Rosenbarger at the top of the Day 1B chip counts are Yann Dion (173,200), Byron Kaverman (156,300) and Kevin MacPhee (134,100), and players that were left crunching the outside snow were WPT Champions Club members Mike Linster, Paul Klann, Noah Schwartz, Jared Jaffee, Giacomo Fundaro and Marvin Rettenmaier. Shaun Deeb also fired, and failed, with his second bullet, as did Jason Koon and Kara Scott.

Here are some of the Day 1B highlights.

It was a shrift shift for the WPT Champions Club member Noah Schwartz after he busted in the first level of the day.

“3B pot and get run down with the 53’ Schwartz tweeted.

Giacomo Fundaro must be feeling pretty good about himself after his runner-up spot in St. Maartens earlier this week, but he will have to invest a little more of that prize money after running pocket kings into aces, on his way to an early exit; and Justin Zaki saw his straight overcome by the flush of Brandon Steven to also end the day much earlier than anticipated.

Shannon Shorr started the day on the same table as Maria Ho and tweeted that she looked ‘dreamy’ before promptly busting her AA v AQcc all-in pre flop; and Scott Seiver eliminated Dan Heimiller when his nut flush beat top pair, after they both got it in on the flop and Seiver hit his hand on the turn.

Christian Harder ran ace-king into an over zealous queen-jack off suit in a three bet pot and lost all his chips; and Matt Salsberg found a little piece of luck to eliminate Prattyush Buddiga. The reigning WPT Player of the Year was behind to a set of sixes, until his pocket aces rivered a third ace to send Buddiga balling.

Then to finish off the day’s action we saw Byron Kaverman eliminating Anthony Pace when he flopped a set of tens against [Ac] [Qc]. Pace flopping top pair to signify the death knell, and Jerry Wong eliminating Ebony Kenney in the final level queens versus [Jc] [Tc].

So that’s a wrap.

Day 1C starts at noon and all Day 1A and Day 1B bustees and bustesses all have a chance to re-enter so a big field is expected.
