Online payment processor Ukash has entered into a partnership with Championship football club Birmingham City FC to allow fans without credit or debit cards to purchase match tickets as well as make bets using online cash. The partnership is designed to help the club increase revenue opportunities by allowing fans to use Ukash’s voucher system to pay for matchday tickets, club merchandise and place bets on Football League sponsor Sky Bet via Birmingham City’s website.
In return Ukash is able to increase brand awareness through in-stadium advertising, as well as branding on the club’s website.
“We are tremendously excited by the opportunities to increase exposure for the Ukash brand through this relationship with Birmingham City Football Club,” Ukash chief executive David Hunter commented.
He explained that with up to 1m spectators coming to the club’s 30,000 capacity St Andrew’s Stadium each year, the processor would gain “a fantastic captive audience” for its products.
“Plus we believe the global audience for the Sky Bet Championship, which is broadcast in up to 92 territories, will very effectively support our own global ambitions,” he added.
Birmingham’s sales manager Shaun Petafi said that following Ukash’s rapid growth he was thrilled that the club had become an “integral” part of the processor’s marketing strategy.
“We look forward to building a long-term relationship with Ukash and providing our supporters with another convenient online payment solution,” Petafi explained. “This system aims to add value to the Blues fans that prefer cash transactions, making online retail more accessible for all of our supporters.”
Birmingham City FC was founded in 1875 as Small Health Alliance, and current competes in the Footbal League Championship, the second tier of league football in England.
