He takes over the reigns held by Tony McAlister, the former IT executive at mobile network Vodafone, who had held the position since taking over from Rorie Devine in January 2009. Cutter is a champion in lean and agile development, open source tools and cloud computing and worked at BSkyB for five years before making the jump to the betting exchange giants.
The appointment has been made despite the previous incumbent making the 2013 CIO 100 – a list that honors the most transformative CIOs in the UK business economy.
Former Ladbrokes Director Richard Ames Changes Tracks
The railway-modeling giants Hornby have appointed the former Ladbrokes IT Director Richard Ames as their new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Ames was Head of Product with responsibilities including IT and Trading before he left the UK gambling outfit in July 2012, amidst unsavory fortunes in the digital sector where IT difficulties were coated in the words ‘scape’ and ‘goat’.
Ames began his career at Philips Consumer Electronics, and before landing his role with Ladbrokes picked up senior positions at both Dixons and Asda Wal-Mart. Roger Canham, Hornby chairman, said: “Ames has a wealth of experience of leading consumer facing-businesses. I was impressed with his track record of implementing successful marketing strategies and managing complex supply chains.”
Ames will take up his new position in April, and will replace Frank Martin who plans to retire.
