ThreatMetrix to enter US online gaming market

Security and fraud prevention solutions provider ThreatMetrix has announced it is to enter the US online gaming market.

The move comes shortly after the firm became a registered vendor with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, which in turn enables the provider to conduct business with Atlantic City casinos.

ThreatMetrix said that it would be able to help casinos combat cybercrime risks such as payment fraud and account takeover.

The firm said its ThreatMetrix Global Trust Intelligence Network process and analyses more than 500 million monthly transactions, 160 million active user accounts, 2,500 customers and 10,000 websites.

ThreatMetrix claims this Network can offer real-time analytics evaluation of logins, payments and new account registration for validity, thus enabling it to authorise transactions and flag potential threats without negatively impacting the customer experience.

Andy Swett, director of business development at ThreatMetrix, said: “ThreatMetrix is uniquely positioned to serve the online gaming market by providing frictionless context-based authentication to protect against cybercrime risks both online and via mobile devices.

“The key to making online gaming successful in the US is an effective security platform and anonymised global sharing of threat intelligence through a trusted identity network.

“While it’s essential to protect the personal data of online gamers, if the customer experience is arduous due to time consuming authentication techniques, the industry will turn gamers away and fail to thrive.”
