Sportradar supports AFC in fight against match-fixing

Sports data and betting solutions security services provider Sportradar has agreed a deal to support the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) governing body in its efforts to tackle match-fixing and help prevent further fraudulent activity across the continent.

According to the Reuters news agency, Sportradar will monitor matches at regional tournaments, including the 2015 Asian Cup national event, as well as the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup club competitions.

The AFC has had to endure a number of incidents of match-fixing in recent years in various competitions across Asia.

Earlier this year, a Singapore Court found three match officials guilty of accepting favours to rig a match in the AFC Cup.

Lebanese referee Ali Sabbagh was jailed for six months, while his assistants Ali Eid and Abdallah Taleb were jailed for three months.

“AFC’s partnership with Sportradar is the latest step taken to counter the threat that match-fixing poses to football in Asia,” AFC’s general secretary, Alex Soosay, said.

“We look forward to utilising Sportradar’s proven expertise in this field and developing an effective working partnership.”
